Hold Your Man (1933) follows the story of Eddie Hall and his accomplice Slim, who are small-time grifters navigating the streets. When the police close in, Eddie seeks refuge in Ruby Adams's apartment, persuading her to conceal him. Ruby, who is no stranger to exploiting the naive, has been trying to extract money from Al, a straightforward man from Cincinnati who is deeply infatuated with her. Despite their initial encounter, Ruby and Eddie form a bond. However, when Eddie unintentionally kills a drunken man who was harassing Ruby, he flees, leaving Ruby to face the consequences. She ends up in a women's reformatory and discovers she is pregnant. Believing Eddie has abandoned her, she is unaware of the profound transformation he has undergone, which will significantly influence her life.
