Atragon (1963)

Atragon (1963) begins with a series of mysterious events unfolding globally, including the vanishing of two engineers. Meanwhile, retired admiral Kosumi narrowly escapes a kidnapping attempt along with his secretary and goddaughter, Makoto. The abduction is foiled by photographer Susumu Hatanaka and his aide. It is later uncovered that the Mu Empire, which vanished 12,000 years ago, is behind these incidents and intends to invade the surface world to reclaim their alleged territories. The Muans also manage to seize the I-403 submarine from disillusioned Captain Jinguji, Makoto's father, and in the process, acquire the blueprints for an even more advanced sub, Atragon. As Mu's assaults escalate, the world urgently seeks Jinguji's assistance, with even his daughter Makoto pleading for his involvement in the battle against Mu. However, Jinguji remains embittered by Japan's defeat in World War II and is initially reluctant to join the fight.
