Dime with a Halo (1963) follows the story of five young boys from the streets of Tijuana who pool their small earnings to purchase a $2 ticket at the Caliente racetrack, hoping to strike it rich. An American named Mr. Jones, though disapproving of their choices, places their bets each week. After a streak of 11 losses, the boys decide to involve Jesus in their endeavor by taking a dime from the church's poor box and adding it to their pool. This time, they win a substantial amount of $81,513. However, they face a dilemma when they cannot locate Mr. Jones to cash the ticket. Trusting no other adult, they turn to Juanita, the sister of one of the boys, who contacts Jones in Los Angeles. Jones promises to return the next day, but tragically suffers a heart attack as he approaches the pay window, causing the ticket to blow away into a pile of trash. The boys' desperate search for the lost ticket proves futile, leading them to return to the church and repay the dime they had taken from the poor box.
