Now forced to hide out from those seeking Vickie?s death, Rose, Mikey and their new family find love and redemption under the most unexpected cirumstances. Shadowboxer marks the directorial debut of Lee Daniels, one of the most remarkable figures in American independent cinema. As producer of Monster’s Ball and The Woodsman, Daniels has drawn stories from the provocative edge of life. At the same time, his films put extraordinary African-American characters at the centre of these psychologically complex works. A Lee Daniels film pushes limits, breaks ground and, in one case so far, wins historic awards. His previous credits show Daniels to be a fearless producer attached to complex, challenging projects. Shadowboxer proves he demands no less of himself as a director. Marked by bravura design, cinematography and music choices, this is a film of bold strokes. Daniels cuts through polite hypocrisies with the curiosity of a born storyteller, hunting for the truth of his characters.
