Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) follows Joel (Jim Carrey), who is shocked to learn that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has undergone a procedure to erase all memories of their tumultuous relationship. In a bid to cope with the heartache, Joel seeks out the inventor of this memory-erasing technology, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have his own memories of Clementine removed. As the process begins, Joel's memories of Clementine start to fade, but he finds himself falling in love with her all over again. In a desperate attempt to preserve what's left of their shared past, Joel tries to evade the memory-erasing procedure. Meanwhile, Dr. Mierzwiak and his team (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) pursue Joel through the labyrinth of his memories, highlighting the enduring power of love and the complexities of human emotion.
