After Mexican Revolution, two orphans, Elisa and Pepe, leave the province for the capital city. They try to survive. During the voyage they meet an older boy, Adrian, who takes them to his house. Here lives Macaria, she is an old witch that gathers and exploits the children because she sends them to steal. After some years, Adrian tries to violate Elisa and to save her, Pepe hurts Adrian and they escape to Mexico City. Then they have to separate. Wandering through the streets, Elisa meets Roberto, an acrobat, and his dog. He helps her. With them also are: Don Roque and Dona Rufina, two janitors that will love Elisa as a daughter. Roberto and Elisa love each other, but he is afraid because he is 20 years older than her. In their roaming they find Pepe and they go to work in a little circus. By mistake, Roberto is believed to be Elisa's father, then they lose sight of each other, but Elisa will look for him for many years. Then she meets Carlos Andrade, a theatrical critic who falls in love with her. He offers her to play in the radio and television. She becomes a star of the cinema and she meets a magnate: George Higgins, separated from his wife. She goes to live with him and she becomes pregnant. During a voyage to N. Y., George dies in a plane crash and Elisa remains sole heir. Elisa gives birth to Fabiola. She refuses to marry Carlos because she thinks about Roberto. But later she marries Arturo a swindler. This marriage is a flop. She succeeds in finding Roberto dying in a hospital. Fabiola is now fiancée of Hector, who is Robeto's son and for Elisa the past returns back.
