Irma la Douce (1963) follows the tale of Nestor Patou (Jack Lemmon), a dedicated but naive policeman who stumbles upon a bustling street of prostitutes in a lively Parisian district. After reporting the women to his corrupt superior, who turns a blind eye in exchange for bribes, Nestor is promptly dismissed. Seeking solace at the local watering hole, Chez Moustache, Nestor befriends Irma La Douce (Shirley MacLaine), a well-liked prostitute. When Irma breaks up with her pimp, Nestor steps in to support her, inadvertently becoming her new pimp. Driven by jealousy, Nestor devises a scheme to end Irma's profession. He disguises himself as an elderly English gentleman and wins Irma's affection by offering her 500 francs twice a week, with financial backing from the bar's owner (Lou Jacobi), who has a hidden agenda. However, Nestor soon realizes that his plan has unforeseen complications.
