Based on the homonymous novel by the Egyptian Nobel-Prize-winner Naguib Mahfouz. The widow Ignacia places all the family hopes in his son Gabriel. All the members of the family make sacrifices to enable Gabriel to finish his studies, but nothing will come out as they had wished for, leading to the complete disintegration of the family. Principio y fin was awarded the Gold Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
