The Shepherd Girl (1964) follows the story of Hsiu Hsiu, portrayed by Julie Yeh Feng, a captivating singing shepherdess who finds herself deeply in love with a charming boatman named Liu Ta Lung. However, her dreams of marriage are threatened by her father's mounting debts, a result of his compulsive gambling. Complicating matters further, a wealthy rival suitor offers to clear her father's debts in exchange for Hsiu Hsiu's hand in marriage. Initially resistant, Hsiu Hsiu's resolve begins to waver when she misinterprets Ta Lung's interactions with another woman. Driven by jealousy, she starts to entertain the idea of marrying her benefactor. Unbeknownst to her, her jealousy stems from a misunderstanding rather than any actual infidelity.
