Mann im Schatten (1961) is set in Vienna during April 1961, where the affluent knitwear producer Miriam Capell is discovered lifeless in her bathtub. Leading the inquiry is Dr. Radosch, who zeroes in on two primary suspects: Franz Villinger, Miriam's employee and ex-lover, who is covertly involved with her niece, and the enigmatic Dr. Melchers, a knitting machine provider known only to Miriam within the company.
