Twilight for the Gods (1958) follows the journey of Captain Bell, portrayed by Rock Hudson, who finds himself spiraling into despair after a court-martial and subsequent discharge from the Navy. Seeking solace in a bottle, he ends up commanding a dilapidated schooner in the South Seas. His voyage takes a dramatic turn when he encounters a diverse and troubled group of passengers and crew members. Among them are Charlotte, a Honolulu prostitute evading authorities, played by Cyd Charisse; Hutton, a struggling show business promoter, portrayed by Leif Erickson; Wiggins, an intellectual beachcomber, played by Richard Haydn; Feodor and Ida Morris, a refugee couple, played by Vladimir Sokoloff and Celia Lovsky; Butterfield, an ineffective missionary, played by Ernest Truex; Ethel Peacock, a faded opera star, played by Judith Evelyn; and Ramsay, a deceitful second mate, played by Arthur Kennedy. As a perilous storm threatens their lives, the true natures of these individuals are laid bare, revealing both their strengths and weaknesses.
