TV Series (2012). 180 Episodes. Carmina (Adriana Esteves) is a humble young woman who marries Genesio (Tony Ramos), father of the child Rita (Mel Maia). During the marriage, Carmina shows her true face and presents herself as an evil and ambitious woman, swindling Genesio with the help of her lover Max (Marcello Novaes). Genesio ends up dying when he is run over on Brazil Avenue in Rio de Janeiro by Jorge Tifon (Murilio Benicio), a prominent soccer player. Carmina's wickedness extends to little Rita: in order to keep Genesio's inheritance, she gives the girl to Nilo (José De Abreu), a child exploiter who lives in a garbage dump. Rita ends up receiving the love and care of Lucinda (Vera Holtz), another inhabitant of the dump. While living there, Rita becomes close friends with Patata (Bernardo Simões), another boy who was abandoned by his mother, but they are separated when Rita is adopted by an Argentine couple and Patata is taken by Carmina (who is his biological mother) and her new husband Tifón, whom she seduced out of interest. In the second stage of the telenovela, Patata is already an adult (Caua Raimond) and goes by the name of Jorgito, and is a soccer player like his adoptive father Tifón; and Rita (Debora Falabella) has become a chef in Argentina, but her plan is to return to Brazil, assuming Nina's identity to take revenge on Carmina.
