Riff-Raff (1991) follows Stevie, a young Glaswegian who has recently been released from prison and travels to London to start anew. He secures a position at a bustling construction site, a diverse hub of temporary workers from across the nation. Stevie must navigate the challenges posed by Mick, the domineering foreman, and a trio of comedic Liverpudlians, Shem, Mo, and Larry, portrayed by Ricky Tomlinson. The crew often finds themselves evading the rules and regulations of the construction industry. Stevie's struggles extend beyond the workplace; he faces low wages, a rat-infested site, and homelessness. One fateful day, while en route to work, Stevie discovers a handbag in a dumpster. He returns it to its owner, Susan, a struggling singer burdened by depression and emotional dependency.
