Canadian Pacific (1949) follows the story of Tom Andrews (Randolph Scott), who, after discovering a crucial route through the Canadian Rockies for the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, decides to step down from his role to marry his beloved, Cecille Gautier (Nancy Olson). Tom's boss, Cornelius Van Horne (Robert Barrat), is informed of Tom's decision. Cecille reveals to Tom that fur trader Dirk Rourke (Victor Jory) opposes the railway's development due to its threat to his control over the Indians and other trappers. A heated conflict ensues between Tom and Rourke over Cecille, leading Tom to ask her to wait for him while he completes his duties with the railway. With the help of Dynamite Dawson (J. Carroll Naish), Tom uncovers evidence of Rourke's sabotage against the railway construction and narrowly escapes death when Rourke shoots into a stack of dynamite Tom is unloading. The camp's doctor, Edith Cabot (Jane Wyatt), saves Tom's life through a blood transfusion. Cecille, discovering her father's (John Parrish) involvement with Rourke against the railway, rides off to alert Tom. Rourke intercepts her and falsely accuses Tom of being in love with the doctor, but Cecille defiantly whips him and rides away.
