The Curse of Man (1920) follows the tale of Maelzer, portrayed by Bela Lugosi, who, after being spurned by his beloved, turns to treachery and attempts to undermine the system. His actions lead to his electrocution, thwarting the authorities' efforts to apprehend him. The film was presented in two segments, titled "Die Tochter der Arbeit" (The Daughters of Work) and "Im Rausche der Millianden" (In the Ecstasy of Billions). During the production of this film, Bela Lugosi had a romantic involvement with his co-star, Violette Napierska. Previously, Lugosi had acted alongside Lee Perry in "Hypnose" (1919) and would later reunite with Willi Kaiser-Heyl in his subsequent film, "Schrecken.
