Maggie Scott (Ann-Margret) is a young fashion designer who is transformed by her first trip to Paris. When department store fashion buyer Irene Chase decides to get married, Mr. Barclay, owner of the store, sends Maggie Scott, her assistant, to Paris for the fashion showings. Barclay's choice surprises Maggie because Ted Barclay (Chad Everett), Barclay's son, has been chasing her and she has been rejecting him. In Paris, famed couturier Marc Fontaine (Louis Jourdan) breaks into her hotel room, believing it to be occupied by Irene, who had been a girl friend of his. They quarrel, but when Maggie is about to lose the order for Marc's collection, they make up, and Maggie becomes romantically interested in the designer. Ted, truly in love with Maggie, flies to Paris to be with her. Maggie is courted also by newspaperman Herb Stone, who takes her on a tour of nightclubs; but Maggie realizes that her involvements with Marc and Herb are only flirtatious and that she really loves Ted. She returns to America with him.
