The Face of Another (1966) follows a businessman who, after suffering severe facial scarring in a laboratory accident, seeks help from a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist provides him with a remarkably realistic mask. Post-fitting, the businessman uses the mask to deceive his wife, successfully seducing her. However, his wife reveals she knew his true identity all along, suggesting that their relationship was a form of mutual deception. Intriguingly, the businessman's personality appears to shift when he wears the mask, as if the mask itself is influencing his behavior. Despite his new identity, he struggles to reintegrate into society. A parallel storyline involves a kind-hearted young woman with a disfigured face who has endured societal rejection and insults. She asks her empathetic older brother to make love to her, intending to take her own life afterward, believing it to be the only way to escape her pain and loneliness.
