The Reader (2008) commences in post-WWII Germany, where a young teenager named Michael Berg (David Kross) falls ill and is assisted by Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet), a woman significantly older than him. After Michael recovers from his illness, he searches for Hanna to express his gratitude, leading to a clandestine and intense romantic relationship. Michael learns that Hanna has a deep affection for being read to, which enhances their physical connection. Their bond strengthens as Michael reads to her from classic works like "The Odyssey," "Huckleberry Finn," and "The Lady with the Little Dog." Despite their profound connection, Hanna abruptly vanishes, leaving Michael bewildered and heartbroken. Years later, while Michael is a law student observing court proceedings, he is shocked to encounter Hanna again in a completely unexpected context.
