In 1917 Krauss directed himself in Le Chemineau, adapted from a play by Jean Richepin, which relates the arrival of a vagabond at the farm of Maître Pierre, a rich owner of land and herds, where he meets Toinette, a peasant who works there. Having seduced her, he abandons her to resume his wandering life. When he returns, 20 years later, he finds Toinette has a son who is madly in love with the daughter of the boss, who opposes their relationship...
