The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) unfolds in 1928, where wealthy young woman Martha Ivers is thwarted in her attempt to elope with her companion Sam Masterson, leading to a tragic incident. Fast forward to the present, Sam comes back to town and discovers that Martha has become the influential figure in Iverstown, now wed to the seemingly upright Walter O'Neil, the district attorney. Initially, Sam is more captivated by the enigmatic blonde Toni Marachek than by his old friends. However, he soon becomes entangled in a complex web of schemes and conflicting agendas.
