Papillon (1973) chronicles the genuine account of Henri Charriere, affectionately known as Papillon, a moniker derived from the French word for 'butterfly,' which is prominently featured as a large tattoo on his character. As a small-time criminal, Papillon is unjustly found guilty of murder and condemned to a life sentence in the harsh French penal colony of 'Guiane' (French Guiana, South America). Driven by an unyielding spirit, Papillon relentlessly pursues freedom, facing numerous setbacks and recaptures. His resolve remains unbroken, even when subjected to solitary confinement as a form of punishment.
