Blow (2001) chronicles the life of George Jung, a pivotal figure in the creation of the American cocaine market during the 1970s. The narrative begins with Jung's upbringing in a financially strapped family during the 1950s. His mother's constant complaints about his father's inability to provide for the family culminate in the family's bankruptcy. Determined to avoid a similar fate, Jung, along with his friend Tuna, ventures into the marijuana trade in the 1960s. His success in California is meteoric, but a stint in prison introduces him to the lucrative world of cocaine. Upon his release, Jung capitalizes on this new opportunity, amassing wealth by smuggling cocaine into the United States. However, his rise to power is short-lived as he eventually faces severe consequences for his actions.
