Gothika (2003) follows the story of Dr. Miranda Grey, a highly esteemed criminal psychologist renowned for her logical and rational approach to her work. Under the guidance of her husband, who serves as the chief administrator at the Woodward Penitentiary for Women, Miranda specializes in treating severely disturbed patients, including Chloe, a captivating murderess whose claims of satanic torture are dismissed by Miranda as delusions. However, Miranda's well-ordered life takes a dark turn when an encounter with a mysterious young girl leads to a terrifying ordeal. Upon waking, Miranda finds her husband murdered, and all evidence points to her as the culprit. Confined to the same psychiatric ward she once oversaw, Miranda struggles to reconcile her actions with her memories. As her behavior becomes increasingly erratic, her former colleagues, including Dr. Pete Graham, question her sanity. Miranda must navigate her fractured visions and the haunting presence of the enigmatic girl to uncover the truth behind her husband's murder and her own involvement.
