Love and Bruises (2011) follows the story of Hua, a Chinese university student in Paris who finds herself heartbroken after a breakup. While wandering the city, she crosses paths with Mathieu, a French worker who accidentally injures her with the pipes he is carrying. Mathieu, feeling remorseful, invites her to dinner. However, the evening takes a dark turn when Mathieu assaults her. Despite this traumatic event, Hua, who is portrayed as both promiscuous and submissive, engages in a one-night stand with Mathieu. Their relationship, fueled by intense sexual desire, begins to unfold. Mathieu, plagued by insecurity, tests Hua's loyalty, leading to another assault by his friend Giovanni. The tumultuous relationship reaches its breaking point when Hua uncovers hidden truths about Mathieu's life, prompting her to return to China.
