The Mask of Zorro (1998) is an epic tale of passion, integrity, sorrow, and victory set during the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Two decades have passed since Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) battled tyranny as the iconic romantic hero Zorro. Now, he seeks a successor to confront Raphael Montero, the corrupt official who stole everything he cherished and left him to languish in a Mexican prison. Antonio Banderas portrays Alejandro Murietta, a wanderer with a troubled history whom Don Diego trains to become the daring romantic hero he once was. Equipped with his mask, sword, whip, and jet-black stallion Tornado, the new Zorro sets out to right 20 years of wrongs and finally bring hope to a people oppressed by Montero's avarice.
