The Sleeping Voice (2011) is a poignant adaptation by Benito Zambrano of Dulce Chacon’s novel, set against the grim backdrop of post-Spanish Civil War Spain. The narrative revolves around the complex bond between two sisters, Hortensia and Pepita. Hortensia, who is pregnant, finds herself incarcerated in Madrid, while Pepita journeys from Cordoba to support her sister and care for the impending child. Both sisters are entwined in relationships with guerrillas who are actively engaged in the underground resistance in the mountains.
