The War Lord (1965) follows the journey of a valiant knight tasked by his duke to venture to a seaside hamlet in Normandy. The knight's mission is to revive a previous failed effort to construct a defensive fortress. As he works to restore the duke's influence amidst the threat of bordering barbarians, his progress is notably successful. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he develops romantic feelings for a local woman, complicating his duties and personal resolve.
