Girl, Interrupted (1999) follows Susanna, a young woman who is admitted to a psychiatric hospital after a series of troubling events, including delusions and a suspected suicide attempt involving aspirin and vodka. She is sent to Claymoore, a private mental institution filled with a diverse group of patients, each with their own unique struggles. Among them are Georgina, a compulsive liar; Polly, a young woman severely scarred by a fire; Daisy, who refuses to eat in front of others; and Lisa, a sociopathic manipulator who frequently escapes and has a significant influence over the other patients. As Susanna navigates her new environment, she forms complex relationships with her fellow patients and staff, including Nurse Valerie. Meanwhile, her boyfriend Toby grows concerned about her apparent comfort in the institution, raising questions about her true intentions and her path to recovery.
