Sally and Freedom (1981)

Sally and Freedom (1981) presents a complex narrative centered around Sally, portrayed by Ewa Fröling, whose life choices and desires shift dramatically. Sally, a social worker, initially seeks marriage and has a child, Mia, with her husband Jonas, a lawyer. However, her desires evolve rapidly; she opts for an abortion without informing Jonas, seeks a divorce, and then chooses to cohabit with Simon, a teacher, without marrying him. Sally's decisions continue to fluctuate as she sends Mia to live with Jonas, only to later desire marriage and a child again. Simon, however, does not share her newfound desires, leading to another abortion. The film explores Sally's indecisiveness and the emotional turmoil that ensues from her ever-changing aspirations, ultimately questioning whether she truly understands her own mind.
