Rififi (1955) follows the story of Tony le Stéphanois (Jean Servais), a tough and cynical criminal who has just been released from prison after taking the fall for his younger friend Jo le Suedois (Carl Mohner). Jo is a criminal who struggles to balance his life of crime with his family responsibilities. Tony seeks out his former lover, Mado (Marie Sabouret), only to discover she has been unfaithful. In a fit of rage, he forces her to undress and brutally beats her, leaving lasting scars. This violent encounter leads Tony to a state of despair, prompting him to join forces with Jo and the jovial Mario (Robert Manuel) for a high-stakes and intricate jewelry heist. The meticulously planned robbery reaches its climax with an extended, dialogue-free sequence showcasing a meticulous break-in through multiple buildings and the outsmarting of a sophisticated alarm system. The heist goes smoothly until Cesar (Jules Dassin, the director), a skilled safecracker brought in from outside, decides to steal an additional small diamond for his glamorous singer girlfriend (Magali Noel).
