Crossing Borders (2006) is set in Spain during the 1960s, a period marked by significant economic changes and widespread unemployment. The story follows Martín, a man who, along with his wife Pilar and their son Pablito, resides in a cramped basement apartment with Martín's parents. Martín's job as a building superintendent is no longer enough to sustain his family, prompting him to consider emigration. With the encouragement of his friend and colleague Marcos, Martín decides to seek better opportunities in Switzerland. Despite facing obstacles, such as the inability to secure a work contract from the Swiss Consulate, Martín and Marcos embark on their journey, posing as tourists to bypass border controls. Young Pablo's life is dramatically altered as he navigates his father's absence, adapts to a new environment, and learns a new language. In Switzerland, the family encounters fresh challenges and experiences that ultimately lead to a renewed sense of happiness and fulfillment.
